We show a wide range of films every year at Chorley Little Theatre. We have been running for 20 years and aim to entertain the town with great films shown at the highest quality: we have digital projection, a big screen and 8 Speaker Surround Sound (when available)

Upcoming Dates:

Tuesday 19th August - 7.30pm
NORTH WEST FILM ARCHIVE: CHORLEY ON FILM
A return visit from the experts from the NWFA, who will be presenting footage about Chorley and Lancashire from the 1920s through to the 1970s, including coastal holidays, wartime maneuvers in Astley Park, and the opening of the M61. This show will feature lots of clips new to Chorley as well as 3 of the best films from last year's show.

Sunday 31st August - 7.30pm
ELIZABETH THE GOLDEN AGE (UK/Fr/Ger 2007. 114m. 12A)

Directed by Shekhar Kapur. Starring Cate Blanchett, Clive Owen,
Blanchett returns as The Virgin Queen, as her Empire expands around the world and she must fight off the Spanish and warring factions within her court. Also starring Samantha Morton and Geoffrey Rush.

THE KITE RUNNER
(USA 2007. 128m. 12A)
Directed by Marc Forster. Starring Khalid Abdalla, Shaun Toub
After spending years in California, Amir returns to his homeland in Afghanistan to help his old friend Hassan, whose son is in trouble. (part-subtitled)

THE DAM BUSTERS
(UK 1955. 124m. U)
Directed by Michael Anderson. Starring Michael Redgrave, Richard Todd
Marking the 60th Anniversary of the famous wartime bombing run.

Sunday 12th October - 7.30pm
SON OF RAMBOW
(UK 2008. 96m. 12A)
Directed by Garth Jennings. Starring Jessica Hynes, Neil Dudgeon
A strong friendship is formed between two contrasting boys when one of them wants to make a film for a BBC Television competition. The friendship strains as more kids get involved and teachers disapprove.

SWEENEY TODD

Directed by Tim Burton. Starring Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham-Carter
A barber seeks revenge on those who wrongly sent him to prison by going on a murderous rampage through the CIty, aided by Mrs Lovett - maker of the "worst pies in London." The Sondheim musical is given the full-bloodied big screen treatment.

BRIEF ENCOUNTER (UK 1945. 86m. PG)
Directed by David Lean. Starring Celia Johnson, Trevor Howard
In a cafe on a small railway station, two married people meet and gradually fall in love with each other. (Showing includes Cream Teas!)

Sunday 23rd November - 7.30pm
LA VIE EN ROSE (La Mome) (France/UK 2007. 140m. 12A)
Directed by Oliver Dahan. Starring Marriane Cottilard, Gerard Depardieu
The eventful life of France's great singer Edith Piaf: the success, the loves, the heartbreaks. Marion Cottliard won several Best Actress awards for her amazing portrayal of Piaf. (subtitled)

Sunday 7th December - 7.30pm
HAPPY-GO-LUCKY (UK 2008. 118m. 12A)
Directed by Mike Leigh. Starring Sally Hawkins, Eddie Marsan
School teacher Poppy lives in contemporary North London. She has great friends, a job she loves, a full life and is desperately learning to drive. She confronts life head on and never loses her sense of humour.

MISS PETTIGREW LIVES FOR A DAY (UK 2008. 92m. tbc)
Directed by Bharat Nalluri. Starring Frances McDormand, Amy Adams
The writer of The Full Monty brings us a comedy about a middle-aged unemployed Governess whisked into the glamourous London social scene by a lively young actress.

Sunday 22nd February - 7.30pm
AND WHEN DID YOU LAST SEE YOUR FATHER? (UK 2007. 92m. 12A)
Directed by Anand Tucker. Starring Jim Broadbent, Colin Firth
A moving autobiographical drama about a doctor who returns to his family home in Yorkshire when he learns his father is dying from cancer.

Sunday 15th March - 7.30pm
THE DUCHESS (UK/USA 2008. tbc. 15)
Directed by Saul Dibb. Starring Keira Knightley, Ralph Fiennes
True story of glamorous, rebellious Duchess of Devonshire: adored by the public but trapped in a loveless marriage, facing the challenges of sex and class in 18th Century England.

BRIDESHEAD REVISITED
(UK 2008. 100m (tbc). tbc)
Directed by Julian Jarrold. Starring Emma Thompson, Michael Gambon
A new adaptation of the famous novel. Captain Charles Ryder remembers his involvement with the owners of the Brideshead estate during the Second World War: the aristocratic Flyte family, particularly brother and sister Sebastian and Julia.

Sunday 19th April - 7.30pm
QUANTUM OF SOLACE
(UK/USA 2008. tbc)
Directed by Marc Forster. Starring Daniel Craig, Gemma Arterton
James Bond is back. Girls, explosions, car chases. That sort of thing. An immediate follow-up to Casino Royale, featuring Judi Dench as M.


Last summer, members of Chorley Film Society were at the unveiling of a Blue Plaque in memory of Lancashire comedian Frank Randle. The unveiling by The Cuthbert Club took place on the North Pier at Blackpool on 7th July 2007 and you can see our photos here.
